Happi Homie Internship Program
Whole Person Education for The Economies of Tomorrow
We believe it is imperative that we shift to a regenerative economy, where the resources we depend on are enriched rather than depleted. This starts by looking closer at what “Economy” means.
The etymology of economics is as follows:
Greek
Oikonomia
Oikos - Nomos
House/Home Managment
At HAPPI, we understand a nested model of home, beginning with our heart and expanding to include our bodies, our communities, our bioregions, and ultimately our planet. This lens allows us to see a holistic view of economy, where value and capital can be understood to include the health of the entire system.
We’re applying our philosophy on holistic education and economics through our upcoming Happi Homie Internship Program, where we will be piloting our “Home-Schooling” curriculum.
In practice, this looks like paying young folk to develop themselves within the context of community and in service to the thriving of our human and more than human communities, rather than bankrupt them in the context of rugged individualism and in service to an economy of profit over people and planet.
We believe that the best way to offer useful programs for young people is to empower them to collaborate in the process of creating them. So in this first round, we’re bringing on four brilliant youth to test drive and co-create the Happi Home-Schooling Program.
Starting in July 2024, this six-month program will guide interns in finding their passions and purpose, connect them to meaningful work, and help them navigate their next steps.
We aim to support each intern’s unique process of feeling more at home with themselves, each other, the places they belong to, and their role in the whole while giving them agency and experience in directing their own learning in a group of supportive peers and mentors.
